English apple growers are coming up with new varities to eventually compete in the international market.
One on sale for the first time this year is Suffolk Pink, sold exclusively by Waitrose. Traypacks of four were priced at £1.59.
According to the trade, the apple was discovered by chance in the county which bears its name. Another under trial separately by grower Hugh Ermen is Scrumptious, the result of 12 years' work crossing Discovery with a Starkspur cross.
