Marks and Spencer is promoting the latest New Zealand apple variety called Jazz for the first time this season. The bicoloured fruit is a Braeburn/Royal Gala cross and is harvested later than either. Because of its tolerance to storage it can be sold in the Uk as late as November. Robin Barnett, marketing manager for importer Worldwide Fruit, said the variety had been very well received. Orchards are already being planted in France and Spain to test whether year-round availability can be achieved. Because of Jazz's scarcity, M&S is traypacking the variety alongside Moonglo, introduced last season. This is an Imperial Gala/ Coramandel Red hybrid.
