First own-label wines upsized, now the brands are moving into bigger, more convenient formats in a bid to add value.
Following the successful launch of own-label 1.5-litre wine pouches last May, Asda is introducing Arniston Bay and Echo Falls wines in easy-pour pouches. Both brands are bottled for Asda by its sourcing arm, IPL beverages, and will hit shelves on 20 May (rsp: £12).
IPL said “phenomenal” demand for pouches had seen sales forecasts outstripped by 400%.
Meanwhile, Sainsbury’s is rolling out two 2.35-litre cask-format varietals developed by Inspired Wines. Cabernet sauvignon and sauvignon blanc will be available under the Mountain Edge brand for £20.
