Asda has launched a major expansion of its groceries delivery service with Uber Eats, claiming move will help people avoid Covid restrictions in stores when ordering for the party season.
The supermarket said it had expanded from 25 stores involved In the trial launched in July, to 100 stores across the UK.
The service, which began with a trial in in Leeds and Birmingham, gives customers a choice of more than 300 Asda own-brand products and branded staple lines for speedy delivery, of as little as 30 minutes, including ready meals, fresh fruit and vegetables and beer, wine and spirits.
Asda said with more people due to celebrating Christmas at home this festive season , with Covid-19 restrictions set to remain in place, the partnership was a way to get fresh groceries, fruit and vegetables, and everyday items for rapid delivery to the doorstep.
Customers order in the same way as they would when ordering from a restaurant via the Uber Eats app.
Once confirmed, the order is picked in-store by Asda colleagues before being collected and delivered by a courier using the Uber Eats app.
The move comes as Asda , alongside other supermarkets., increasingly looks to ramp up its last mile delivery services.
Last week Asda launched a partnership with online restaurant Twisted London, with a trial of a new concept which will see the trendy food brand take over one of its biggest supermarket’s cafés and launch new counter and delivery services across a wide area of the capital.
“We’re pleased to be able to offer the convenience of rapid delivery across a wide range of products to more Asda customers through the extension of our partnership with Uber Eats,” said Simon Gregg, vice president of online Grocery at Asda.
“Customers in these stores now have even more options to get their favourite Asda brand and branded products quickly delivered to the doorstep.”
Toussaint Wattinne, general manager at Uber Eats, added: “With the festive season underway, there is once again a growing demand for more grocery delivery options.
