Asda is trialling boerewors – a traditional South African sausage – in 50 stores, as it looks to boost its range of South African foods.
Aunty Joan’s Boerewors Sausages have been added to stores that Asda has identified as being near to South African communities nearby, priced at £2.58 for a 400g pack.
An Asda spokeswoman said the sausage had been listed on a trial basis after customer feedback suggested Asda did not have strong ranges of South African products.
“We are keen to get customer feedback on this product and any other South African products which customers think should be in this range,” she added.
Boerewors is highly popular in South Africa, where it is traditionally formed into a spiral and barbecued on a braai.
