Asda has opened a new multimillion-pound Merchandising Centre of Excellence (MCE) next to its head office in Leeds.
The new facility includes a full-size model store for mocking up different shelf layouts and a state-of-the-art virtual reality lab.
Asda said it would be used alongside suppliers to test store layouts and construction plans virtually.
The centre also holds a 650-seat auditorium which will be used for internal and supplier conferences.

Asda took two months to finish the MCE, a previous version of which had been located on the old Tetley’s Brewery site in Leeds until earlier this year.
“The new MCE is a significant investment for Asda and a great way for us to ensure we’re getting everything right for our customers before we roll it out to stores,” said MCE manager Shaun Bamforth.
“It’s also a boost to the local economy in Leeds - as well as the investment during the construction phase, the site gives us the ability to host conferences and events that will bring thousands of people into the city centre each year.”
