Asda is relaunching its in-store cafés across the UK under the new ‘Asda Kitchen’ brand, with the first having been unveiled in a £2m revamp of its Pilsworth store in Bury, Greater Manchester.

The nationwide programme to “reinvigorate” its cafés will aim to offer a more modern dining experience with a coffee shop atmosphere.

Asda said its new menu includes traditional favourites as well as a variety of healthier options, and customers will be able to order via a manned till, kiosk, or using a QR code to have their food delivered to their table.

The Pilsworth store began its refurbishment programme earlier this year and also includes a consolidated food hall, simplifying the layout of the shop floor, as well as new feature lighting and updated signage.

As reported by The Grocer, it also includes a trial of an automated free sample vending machine, allowing shoppers to scan their Asda Rewards loyalty app to access a free sample.

Asda said the Pilsworth revamp was its biggest single investment in a store for several years.

It come after it carried out a £50m store upgrade programme in May last year, across 50 of its larger supermarkets and superstores.

Executive chairman Allan Leighton is under pressure to improve investment in stores as the supermarket continues its turnaround plans.

“After months of hard work from all involved, we’re excited to welcome the local community into our newly upgraded Pilsworth store,” said Dan Grindrod, general store manager at Asda Pilsworth.

“This investment has enabled us to create a modern shopping environment that makes it easier for the customers we serve to find the products and value they’ve come to expect from Asda.”
