Average household disposable suffered a record fall of £43.95 a week in June, according to research by Asda .
The supermarket’s Income Tracker showed the fall, equivalent to £175.80 per month, had seen household disposable incomes face an 18% squeeze in June compared with the same period last year as the cost of living crisis continued to hit family budgets.
It found the average household had £200 per week left after paying tax and essential bills last month – a figure that has fallen for eight consecutive months to a figure last seen in December 2017. Some 20% of UK households now had ‘negative disposable income’, it added.
Asda is among companies taking part in the government’s Help for Households campaign and has extended its £1 kids’ café meals, with no minimum adult spend, until the end of the year, as part of a series of moves. The scheme was extended to all Asda cafés from today, having already been rolled out in Scotland.
