Shoppers are rebuying products they’ve already paid for to capitalise on Asda’s Price Guarantee glitch.

The Grocer revealed last month that a flaw on the Asda Price Guarantee website meant Asda was issuing bumper-size vouchers when certain ‘trigger’ products were bought alongside brands other supermarkets had on multibuy promotions.

Shoppers have claimed that when ‘trigger’ products were not available, they resorted to bringing in products they had already bought to continue cashing in.

A moneysavingexpert member claimed he needed to buy a bottle of conditioner to take advantage of the glitch, but his local store had run out. “My local Mr A ran out of Smart Price conditioner,” he wrote. “I had to bring my own.”

However, the practice has fallen foul of MSE administrators, who are swiftly removing posts that discuss the practice amid fraud concerns.

Trading Standards said “consumers who encourage others to defraud businesses by exploiting errors or loopholes could potentially face criminal action with regard to aiding and abetting the commission of an offence”.
