Fast-growing online fashion retailer Asos has become the second partner to sign up to Asda’s embryonic ToYou collect-and-return parcel service.

An Asda spokesman said the £1.1bn turnover online operator was trialling the service that allows customers to collect and return orders placed with other companies at any of its 614 outlets. The service launched in November with ladies’ fashion retailer Misguided as its first partner.

“Customers of our client partners are able to track their parcel deliveries to our collection points once their retailer has despatched them to us,” he said. “They can see their parcels entering our national and local warehouses, at every point from receipt to ready for collection.”

Asda said its own “financial strength and stability” had enabled it to continue to invest and innovate through difficult market conditions.

“We have an advantage in that we own and operate more than 90% of our logistics network, making it possible to connect our logistics and retail networks together on one system and technology platform,” added the spokesman.

When Asda announced the launch of ToYou it said it hoped the service would drive 40 million more customer visits every year by 2019, supported by a team of dedicated staff based at its parcel tracking control hub in Rochdale, Lancashire.

ToYou also allowed it to improve its George.com offer, he added, reducing waiting times for collection and enabling customers to place orders later in the evening for next-day collection.

The launch came just weeks after Asda’s apparent retreat from click & collect, instead emerging with a more nuanced strategy, inspired by the success of similar services such as Collect+ and Doddle but utilising its existing store estate.
