Asda CEO Roger Burnley has paid tribute to staff “working round the clock” after the retailer launched a “colleague thank you week” to celebrate the efforts of supermarket workers over the pandemic.
As part of the week, staff will be entitled to discount events with a range of products discounted across stores.
All hourly paid supermarket staff will also this week receive a bonus payment, announced last month, of an extra week’s wages.
“During the past three months our colleagues have worked round the clock in unprecedented circumstances to help keep the nation fed,” said Burnley.
“I am incredibly proud of how they have risen to the challenge of this pandemic to support customers and the communities they serve, and we want to thank them again for their efforts. This week we are kicking off a range of colleague thank you activities, including special discount events, thank you gifts and, for eligible colleagues, a thank you payment of an extra week’s pay to recognise all their efforts.”
