Asda has donated 300 high visibility jacket as part of its support to a new initiative by Leeds City Council to offer road safety training to children.
At the same time Asda pledged its support to similar schemes across the country by adopting ‘walking busses’, a pedestrian version of the school run, at all of its stores by the end of 2003.
The scheme includes children receiving an introduction to road safety and then being taken out to cross local roads, wearing the jackets supplied by Asda.
Asda’s head of customer services, Richard Woodhall, said: “The scheme looks set to become an outstanding success.
“We are now looking at ways we can replicate this success on a more local level by all our stores adopting walking bus or similar schemes by the end of 2003.”
