Asda is attempting to map consumer confidence, having recruited 10,000 shoppers to answer weekly questions about their lives, shopping habits, job security and the economy.
The Pulse of the Nation Index has produced its first quarterly findings, which show confidence in the economy is very low. Asked to rate out of 100 their confidence in the economy, 2,974 respondents gave the economy an average score of 28/100. However, people seemed more confident about job security, with an average score of 65/100.
“Although the economic situation does worry me, I feel pretty confident about my life in general,” said panel member and mother of three, Joy Ellis from Enfield. “There are definitely things that concern me such as the increasing cost of living and safety on our streets, but I am still feeling quite positive.”
