Asda is to do away with foreign imports of carrots at its stores by doubling the amount of the vegetable it sources from Scotland this year.
Produce manager at Asda, John Shoesmith, said by working with growers in Scotland over the last three years, the chain had managed to extend the British carrot-growing season from 46 weeks to 50.
Shoesmith added that Asda is on track to become 100% self-sufficient in carrots by 2004.
