Asda is launching a gaming magazine in a bid to boost sales among mums.
The free quarterly Asda Games Magazine debuts this month and will target the family market rather than experienced gamers.
“Asda has launched this magazine as a key innovation in supporting our growth in gaming by offering uniquely targeted information and advice to Asda customers,” said editor Duncan Cross. Asda said the magazine would help inform mums’ buying choices as many gaming magazines had little relevance to a family audience.
The move is part of a wider games push by Asda – the UK’s eighth-largest games retailer, according to TNS – that includes additional ranges in-store, new fixtures and more dedicated space. Asda is also working with Nintendo to launch branded gaming aisles in selected stores.
The move reflects retailers’ growing interest in gaming after the success of the Wii and Sony PS3.
