Packhouse boost for Cornish suppliers Cornish vegetable growers working through Hayle based Riviera Produce and with Defra aid are building a £439,000 packhouse, operational by the autumn. RP is a private limited company set up to supply Asda, representing 40 growers with 4,000 acres. The move will bring cost savings, as produce previously was transported for packaging in Lincolnshire, and redistributed for Asda from there. Savings will be returned to growers as an increased payment and new crops such as early swedes and parsnips introduced in Cornwall. These were previously grown more economically in Lincolnshire. The new facility will be operational by the autumn. Asda has agreed to source all winter cauliflower and cabbage from Cornwall. {{FRESH PRODUCE }}
