Police probe for needles in bread
Police are investigating whether someone deliberately contaminated Asda own label bread during manufacture at Allied BakeriesÕ Stockport plant.
Needles were found in Asda and Farmstores branded bread bought in 56 stores in the Greater Manchester area.
Asda has suspended supplies from the Allied Bakery factory and could not confirm when they would be resumed. It says it is working to reassure consumers. A spokeswoman said: ÒWe hope any anxious customers will think we are acting with suitable responsibility.Ó
Allied Bakeries said production at the plant was continuing, and said increased security and cctv were helping police. ÒWe take this very seriously,Ó said a spokeswoman.
