Asda opened the doors of its first town centre-located supercentre on Thursday, bringing its supercentre tally to 13. The chain invested £9.5m in refurbishing the former Sainsbury Savacentre site at the Eastgate Centre in Basildon, Essex, purchased in March. All 400 existing employees of Savacentre have joined Asda and 60 jobs have been created at the extended 81,000 sq ft store.
