Asda's traffic light avocado boxes indicate ripeness

Asda is rolling out ‘traffic light’ packaging for avocados to over 300 stores after a 30-store trial saw a 50% increase in sales.

The trial saw avocados that were ripe and ready to eat sold in green boxes, ‘almost ripe’ avocados sold in orange and unripe avocados sold in pink boxes. They also bore coloured labels.

“The days of avocado guesswork will soon be a distant memory,” said Asda avocado buyer, Damien Gray.

The avocados are on sale at £1 each.
