Asda Longsight, Manchester
2 Our shopper heaped praise on the staff at this Asda store who he said went above and beyond the call of duty to provide first-class customer service. The store boasted a host of highly visible Rollback promotions and special offers, including price cuts on grapes, broccoli and avocados. However, both the dogfood and the bolognese sauce were out of stock, while there were notable gaps and untidy displays in the chilled section. We visited on 1 August at 10.50am. Our shop lasted one hour and 32 minutes. Time spent at the checkout was five minutes.
morrisons Bath
0 The only store to provide a full basket of goods, the Morrisons in Bath also delivered strong promotions and solid customer service earning it this week’s Top Store award. Shelves were well merchandised with prominent special offers on Robinsons Whole Orange (3 for £2) and Dairylea Spread (bogof). Two members of staff were unable to point out the location of the Quorn chicken pieces, although a third was extremely helpful. We visited on 1 August at 13.25pm. Our shop lasted one hour and 11 minutes. Time spent at the checkout was eight minutes.
sainsbury’s Portsmouth
2 The Sainsbury’s in Portsmouth was clean and tidy but looked old and in need of refurbishment. The store was difficult to navigate and even though the fruit and veg section was a reasonable size there was a limited range of produce available. Staff were extremely polite and bags for life were offered without prompting. Both the Kettle Chips and Magnum ice creams were out of stock - but the latter was on a bogof special offer. We visited on 1 August at 16.00pm. Our shop lasted one hour. Time spent at the checkout was four minutes.
tesco Amersham, Bucks
1 Despite the best efforts of staff to find the Magnum ice creams, including a visit to the stock room, this item was unavailable. The store was well merchandised - aside from the frozen section, which appeared to be undergoing a redesign. The ceiling signage was good and shelves were well labelled. There was, however, a problem at the store’s recycling centre, where only one machine was in operation forcing our shopper to queue for about 10 minutes. We visited on 1 August at 12.00pm. Our shop lasted 50 minutes. Time spent at the checkout was five minutes.
waitrose Milton Keynes
2 From the helpful attentive staff to the spotless aisles and well-stocked shelves, everything at this Waitrose pointed to a slick, well-run operation. The fresh bread section was a little understocked and the in-store wholemeal loaf was one of two items unavailable, the other being the dogfood. The checkout assistant was polite, offering to pack our shopper’s bags and wishing him a good weekend. There was a 2 for £8 offer on Bacardi Breezers and Actimel was 2 for £4.50. We visited on 1 August at 16.40pm. Our shop lasted one hour. Time spent at the checkout was five minutes.
