Dutch potato processor Aviko is to offer British chip fans a healthier version of their favourite indulgence with the launch of Dolce Fritas, oven chips pre-fried in pure olive oil.
Rolling out now to Sainsbury’s outlets, Aviko said the new offerings contain 40% less fat than standard deep fried chips and are consequently lower in calories. They come in tearable ‘rip and chip’ 600g bags priced at 99p.
A spokeswoman said the aim was to capitalise on consumers’ increasing use of olive oil and their interest in eating more healthily.
Aviko is one of the world’s largest potato processors and is a big player in European foodservice. It also has a strong presence in some European retail markets.
