Cranberry has gone down a treat with Bacardi Breezer drinkers, its makers have claimed.
Bacardi-Martini said the latest addition to its premium packaged spirits (pps) range has gained 59% distribution in multiple grocers in the three months since it was launched, and is the number one cranberry style pps in the grocery market.
ACNielsen Scantrack put sales at 10,000 bottles per day, while a Bacardi-Martini spokesman said it outsold its two biggest cranberry rivals by 15%.
Commercial development controller Jeremy Paris Jones said the category has been dominated by orange, lemon and pineapple, but the success of cranberry has not been at the expense of those flavours. He said the Breezer brand had increased its rate of sale by 50% since the introduction of cranberry.
"With cranberry becoming increasingly popular as a mixer over the last 18 months, it was a logical step to develop the flavour in the pps market," he said.
"We are now looking to increase its production to ensure it becomes a must stock product."
As part of its support for Breezer, the company has spent £500,000 on a relaunch of the brand's web site this month.
The site, www.bacardi-breezer.co.uk, is targeted at 18 to 35 year olds, features access to the latest music and has constantly updated lifestyle news.
