Bacardi Brown-Forman has followed its major rivals by announcing that above-inflation price hikes will be implemented across its spirits portfolio.
The majority of the spirits company’s brands will be affected, including the Bacardi rum range, Jack Daniel’s, Grey Goose, Bombay Sapphire, Martini, Glenmorangie malt whisky and Drambuie.
Bacardi said the increases were a result of “increasing complexity and competitiveness of the marketplace” which had impacted “significantly” on the business. The move would enable the company to continue to heavily invest in its brands, it added.
Rival Diageo cited a similar reason for its inflation-busting price increases, announced last month (The Grocer, February 5, p60), also stating that it would use the revenue to increase investment in brands.
Bacardi’s Breezer range of products would not be affected, the company said.
