Badger Ales is extending its bottled ale portfolio this year.
Badger First Gold, a 4% abv Dorset ale, has been launched by Hall & Woodhouse as both a bottled and cask ale. The ale will be available from August, supported by above-the-line national and regional advertising.
Hall & Woodhouse also revealed that a new variant of Badger Ale, which has been developed in partnership with celebrity chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, is due to be launched at the Great British Beer Festival next month.
Rick Payne, marketing manager for brands, said: “We have always believed that the key to ensuring a strong and vibrant cask ale market is to create exciting new products that the market wants.”
Badger Ales has a 10.4% share of the premium bottled ale market and is growing at 57% [ACNielsen, GB sales, MAT May 2005].
Tesco is currently working on a number of industry-standard symbols to include on retail-ready packaging (RRP) in an effort to make wine and spirits easier to identify. Liz Hulbert, RRP project manager for Tesco, said that possibilities included adding red discs with a capital F for French red wine to packaging.

Coors Brewers has undertaken a full product recall for its Reef 700ml Orange & Passion Fruit drinks with a best before date of end 31/05/06, due to a build up of excessive carbonation, creating a risk of bottles shattering on handling.
Thatchers, the Somerset-based cider producer, has introduced a 7.4% abv Vintage Cider blended especially for sale through the take-home trade (rsp: £2.29 for 75cl).
J Wray & Nephew UK, the Jamaican rum brand, is sponsoring the Big Chill Festival at Eastnor Castle from August 5-7. A rum shack will serve cocktails and there will be a line up of reggae artists.
Australian wine brand, Banrock Station, is spending more than £500,000 on national advertising and sampling this summer.
