ATM operator Bank Machine has ousted Moneybox as Spar’s preferred supplier of cash machines.
Spar has refused to comment on why it needed to switch suppliers, but has said that Bank Machine proved the most professional ATM company following a tender process.
However, Bank Machine MD Ron Delnevo suggested that the decision was based on its ability to deliver a complete service to retailers. He said: “I am not saying that we are perfect when it comes to service and it’s not an easy thing to get right. However, it is an area where I believe we can always perform better than our competitors.”
Delnevo explained that he also felt that Bank
Machine’s previous experience with Spar operators such as Tates had played an important role in sealing the deal.
“We have been working with Spar retailers since 1988, which has definitely helped cement our relationship with them,” he added.
Despite having lost its preferred supplier status, Moneybox said that the company would continue to fight for contracts with Spar retailers directly and that it was confident of retaining much of its business under the fascia.
A spokeswoman said: “We still supply around 800 ATMs to Spar retailers and continue to receive enquiries from the retailers themselves.”
