Wine drinkers are giving the thumbs up to BRL Hardy's latest single varietal addition to its Banrock Station range.
The leading Australian wine company's new Petit Verdot style has been on test in Tesco for the past eight weeks and the results have prompted it to extend distribution to the rest of the off-trade. The favourable response has also prompted the company to introduce it to the US and to its home market in Australia.
Chief red winemaker Steve Pannell said: "The Petit Verdot is one of the most exciting developments in the Banrock Station range.
"It is one of the best wines we have made in South Australia's Riverland region It has the potential to become its signature variety as Riesling is to Clare Valley, Shiraz to McLaren Vale and Cabernet to Coonawarra."
Banrock Station's 2001 Petit Verdot is the first vintage of the variety and retails at £4.99.
