Off licence chain Bargain Booze plans to open a third depot towards the end of next year as its rapid expansion continues.
MD Matthew Hughes said the company’s new logistics director Peter Dokerty had been charged with finding a suitable location for the depot, as he reviewed the company’s transport and warehousing arrangements. He said: “We have grown very fast since 1999 and made changes to our infrastructure as we went along. We need to make sure the changes are effective.”
The franchise
operation, owned by Irish wholesale giant BWG, now supplies 466 Bargain Booze and Bargain Booze Plus stores and 65 Thoroughgoods CTN-style off licence stores.
Hughes said that the company, which already has depots in Crewe and Stoke-on-Trent, was planning to recruit a further 80 stores this year.
Dokerty replaced Mike Cryer as logistics director in November after a management shake-up in which former marketing director Hughes took over as MD (The Grocer, November 8, p15).
