Belton Cheese has won a contract to supply three traditional farmhouse cheeses into Tesco's Finest range as the retailer strengthens its artisan cheese offer.
The Shropshire-based producer is now supplying Rinded Red Leicester, Rinded Double Gloucester and Cheshire worth about £1.5m in retail sales into the range.
Belton's ability to produce consistent cheeses, handmade on the farm, using locally sourced milk made them a perfect and welcome addition to the Finest range, said David Harman, Tesco senior cheese buyer. "We care about using outstanding quality ingredients made by experts who care." The cheeses went into stores on Wednesday, and packs feature the name Belton Cheese as well as the Finest branding.
Tesco is also increasing distribution of Belton's organic medium and mature Cheddar in its standard tier.
