Berry Bros & Rudd, the Queen’s wine merchant, has added a third rum to its Penny Blue range.
VSOP, a single estate tipple, joins the XO and Single Cask variants as a lower priced option (rsp: £24.95/700ml)
Launching today (27 March) in high-end retailers including Harvey Nichols, the 40% abv spirit is matured in Cognac, Bourbon and whisky barrels. It is described as containing “hints of glazed fruits, cedar wood and spices”.
“Following the success of the small batch Penny Blue XO releases, we wanted to create a younger, more mixable rum, that retained the character and terroir of our Single Estate Rums,” said Doug McIvor, Berry Bros & Rudd’s reserve spirit specialist, told The Grocer.
The launch comes soon after the supplier unveiled its latest limited-edition wine label, with around 4,000 bottles of Good Ordinary Claret featuring Bacchus sketched by London-based designer Luke Edward Hall.
