Historic wine and spirits merchant Berry Bros & Rudd has enlisted The Real Co to produce a sparkling tea for sale online and in its stores.
Berry Bros & Rudd Own Selection Sparkling Tea (rsp: £16.95/75cl) has been produced with tea leaves sourced from the Puttabong tea estate in West Bengal, India.
It was produced using hand harvested “first flush” tea leaves that had been rolled and allowed to dry naturally before fermentation, said Berry Bros & Rudd.
The result was a “balanced, refreshing, dry and fresh sparkling tea” that offered “fruit and spice notes and a gentle bitterness”.

Berry Bros & Rudd said it decided to introduce the tipple after seeing growing demand for both alcohol-free drinks and sparkling tea from its customers. Sales in low & no across its stores are up 51% year on year, it said.
“We are always looking to innovate and bring new flavours and experiences to our customers,” said Berry’s sparkling buyer Davy Żyw. “We are delighted to offer our new Own Selection Sparkling Tea. Created with our partners, The Real Co, it has been fantastic to bring this to life and offer an alternative to sparkling wine and something completely different for our Own Selection range.”
Adrian Hodgson, co-founder at The Real Co, added: “We are thrilled to partner with Berry Bros & Rudd, a true icon in the world of wine. At Real, we’re dedicated to combining the art and science of fermentation to break boundaries in the alcohol-free space.
“Collaborating with a company that shares our passion for quality and excellence is an exciting milestone and one that we’re proud to see come to life.”
