Berry Gardens CEO Nick Allen has been appointed as the new chief executive of the British Egg Industry Council.

Allen will join the egg trade body on 7 April 2025 and take over from acting chief executive Mark Williams, who will resume his role as chairman.

“We are delighted that Nick is coming on board at the BEIC,” said Williams. “His extensive background and strategic vision will be invaluable as we continue to represent the best interests of our members and ensure the British Lion Code remains the envy of egg producers around the world.

“We are confident that under his leadership, the British Egg Industry Council will go from strength to strength.”

Allen led the sale of Berry Gardens to Driscoll’s in October 2022 and subsequently managed the integration process as UK general manager.

Previously he was finance and operations director at the berry group, and before that the finance director.

Allen has extensive expertise and knowledge in strategic planning, highly developed leadership skills and a proven track record in advocating for and engaging stakeholders in the farming and commercial sectors, said the BEIC.

“I’m very excited to take on this new role. It is clear to me that the industry is committed to its world-leading farm assurance scheme,” said Allen. “I hope that my passion for UK food and farming, together with my expertise in the sector, can bring a new perspective and futureproof British Lion Eggs for the industry and its customers.”
