Costcutter retailers will have their £4.88 fuel levy reimbursed if they meet an average weekly spend per store of £17,500 with Bestway in a new Platinum Club membership, The Grocer can reveal.
In a letter from the wholesaler to retailers, its head of central operations Janine Tompkins said fuel levies would be refunded to members in six-week intervals aligned with its rebate calendar. Payments will be calculated based on the number of deliveries undertaken within the rebate period, she added.
The business said it would be keeping eligible members informed of rebate payments via email every six-week period, in which details of the fuel levy charge credits would also be highlighted. The first email will be received by retailers on Wednesday 18 May, ahead of the following payment date on 20 May.
Bestway explained it has had a “great response” so far and more than 100 Costcutter retailers were currently benefiting from the initiative.
Costcutter’s fuel levy was implemented on 28 March to stores across England, Scotland and Wales. It was introduced because of significant operating cost increases, driver and raw material shortages, and fuel price increases. It said the reimbursement of the fuel levy was a benefit of the Platinum Club membership.
