Vegan fast food specialist Biff’s Kitchen has raised a six-figure sum from a private fundraising drive to grow its jackfruit burger offering and develop a new retail range.
The brand has completed a first round investment drive led by Snaffling Pig co-founder Andrew Allen, who has joined as commercial director and partner.
The “six-figure sum” would be used to broaden the company’s offering to focus on products and wholesale possibilities.
Initially the product business will centre on foodservice, building on successful pilots with operators such as All Star Lanes.
However, it also plans to develop a retail range, while the push will also include a new supply chain and brand identity.
Allen said this retail range is in the ”latter stages” of development, with a view to coming to market later in 2019.
“We’re aware that being a plant based product is no recipe for guaranteed success, so our strategy is to build on the past two years of grassroots activity and brand development with an extensive festival and events presence, in addition to our foodservice operation.
“We’re aiming to ensure we’re one of, if not the, most visible vegan brands pre-any retail launch.”
The fundraising process was led by YF Funding, the recently launched startup funding platform project by Young Foodies and corporate finance firm Spayne Lindsay.
Allen said: “Biff’s has always been an ambitious business- even in its very early days in street food, there was a desire and a plan to reach a mass audience and show how tasty and downright enjoyable vegan food can be. Securing funding from some of the ‘smartest’ money we could find is another important step in that plan.
Founded by Biff Burrows and Christa Bloom in 2017, Biff’s Kitchen has become a mainstay of London’s street food market KERB, while also launching London-based pop-up outlets and a takeaway concession.
