Fledgling London distillery Bimber is expanding into craft rum with its latest tipple.
The brand has launched London Rum - a 40% abv, single blended rum made from column and pot distilled rums created from molasses at Bimber’s West London base.
The drink was “crystal clear in colour with fresh grassy top notes and a hint of cracked black pepper”, said Bimber master distiller Dariusz Plazewski, with “a clean and smooth taste with a slight sweetness of dark muscovado sugar”.
“The finish is delicate and round with a hint of caramel and a pinch of dark chocolate”, he added.
The drink will be available through Bimber’s online store and in retail exclusively through Jeroboams from 19 October (rsp: £24.95/70cl).
The rum joins Bimber’s ‘London Classics’ range of “superior spirits at low cost prices” it is targeting at specialist retailers and high-end bars as ‘house pour’ alternatives to big-name brands.
Distilled in batches of 1,000 bottles, the rum was “still at an accessible price point which is able to challenge the dominance of the corporate brands in this space such as Bacardi and Havana Club”, said Bimber.
As well as making gin and vodka, the distillery is shortly to release a range of single malt whiskies, which it claims are the first distilled in the capital in a century. The range will include sherry cask, port cask, bourbon cask, virgin oak and ‘signature’ variants.
