The exceptional quality of this year’s Californian Bings means growers are expecting the fruit to take the UK market by storm.
Jim Cuthbertson, manager of the Californian Cherry Advisory Board said: “Growing conditions have been near perfect.
“Leading retailers like California cherries because the growing conditions are consistent and closely monitored.”
The fruit begins arriving on UK shelves this week.
Neil Gordon, the board’s UK representative, said he
anticipated a rising demand this year and added that several multiples were already committed to instore tastings, backed by point of sale material and recipe leaflets and posters.
Among the first retailers on board for activity are Marks and Spencer and Waitrose.
