Bio & Me has become the latest brand to launch a range of kefir drinks.
The Good for Your Gut kefir drink range will include two SKUs, Natural and Vanilla (rsp: £2.60/500ml).
Each bottle contains more culture strains than any other kefir drink on the market, according to the brand. It has 18 different cultures strains as well as a greater number of active cultures overall, with over 100 billion of them.
The range also includes no added sugars, emulsifiers or thickeners, employing a unique fermentation technique to produce the nourishment of fermented dairy without protein powders or artificial sweeteners.
It is naturally high in protein and an excellent source of calcium, B12, B2 and phosphorus.
Earlier this month, both Yeo Valley and Biotiful Gut Health expanded their kefir drinks ranges with the launch of Gut Health Shots and organic SKUs respecitvely.
“Many kefir drinks on the market, even those labelled as ‘gut-healthy’, are often packed with added sugars, thickeners and artificial ingredients,” said Bio & Me co-founder Dr Megan Rossi. “We’ve worked really hard to create as close a match as possible to traditional, homemade kefir, which is celebrated for its strain diversity, high active cultures count, and clean ingredients.
“Our unique fermentation process eliminates the need for emulsifiers, thickeners or added sugars, letting the quality of the ingredients shine through – and importantly, they taste great too,” she added.
The duo will roll out into Sainsbury’s on 25 September and Whole Foods on 2 October. The Whole Foods launch will also include a window takeover at the retailer’s flagship High Street Kensington store.
“We’ve carefully crafted our kefir drinks to provide the highest quality nutrition for consumers without cutting corners,” said CEO Jon Walsh. “Now more than ever, people are looking at what’s actually in the food they’re eating, and for us, as a credible, science-backed brand, it was important to us for these kefir drinks to be the absolute best.”
