Blakemore has agreed a four-year lease hire deal for 22 new trucks to replace some of its older delivery vehicles.

The fleet of Volvo FM11 410 Globetrotters will replace some of its vehicles at its Willenhall distribution centre and form part of the wholesaler’s ongoing vehicle replacement programme.

Averaging 10.7 miles per gallon, the units are 10% more fuel efficient than the former vehicles.

Blakemore Logistics compliance manager Dave Higgs said: “The company is committed to responsible business practice, and these new tractor units not only offer improved fuel efficiency to minimise our environmental impact but also the latest technology to maximise driver and road user safety.”

The new lorries, supplied by Hartshorne Motor Services, are fitted with safety cameras and cycle-safety features, as well as Blue Tree tracking systems to aid fuel management, driver performance, navigation and communication.

“This is the largest single order supplied to AF Blakemore in the last 10 years and follows a lengthy process of evaluation undertaken by the two companies,” said Hartshorne Motor Services account director Keith Bradley.

“During that time, AF Blakemore has monitored fuel consumption, product reliability, driver acceptance, safety features and aftersales support as well as seeking an optimum cost-effective solution.

“The 22 tractor units come with the very latest safety features that are synonymous with Volvo. With industry-leading fuel consumption, safety and driver comfort, the units, powered by the latest level of Euro 6 emission engines, also deliver significant environmental benefits with reductions in carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides and soot particulates.

“Our relationship with AF Blakemore has grown and developed into a true business partnership based on a continuous drive for improvement in all areas and underpinned by trust and integrity.”
