Retro wine brand Blue Nun is returning to its German roots for a move into the premium sector.
Langguth, which owns the brand, says it plans to launch a single estate wine from the Mosel valley next month.
The wine, called Winemakers Passion, joins the 20-strong range of Blue Nun wines, which include a Spanish rosé and a Chilean Chardonnay that were introduced in 2004.
"Blue Nun sales are now higher in the UK than they have ever been," said Langguth marketing director Armin Wagner. "We felt it was important to continue raising the bar by extending Blue Nun's wine range to include a premium offering that will challenge consumers who are just setting out on their wine journey."
The company has also added a Pinot Grigio Riesling blend to the brand line-up, in order to capitalise on the growth of Pinot Grigio in the market, up 63% by volume last year [Nielsen MAT to end November 2006].
