Specialist snacks retailer Julian Graves has bought Boaters Coffee Company for an undisclosed sum.
Nick Shutts, MD of Julian Graves, said: “The acquisition presents lots of opportunities. We plan to open the first Boaters-branded coffee shop in March, the first of 100 such outlets to be rolled out.
“Boaters cafés will be introduced as soon as possible into some of our larger stores. And we aim to have the full range in all stores soon.”
He said the deal would enable Julian Graves to attract more affluent customers, launch new food and non-food products and expand overseas. Boaters has supplied its instant and ground flavoured coffees to Julian Graves’ 230 stores in the UK and Ireland since 1995. It also supplies supermarkets and exports to the continent, Asia, Australia, the Middle East and South Africa.
MD Richard Affleck and sales director his wife Cally will stay with Boaters for the next two years as consultants. Its workforce will continue working at its base in Ampthill.
The acquisition comes after Julian Graves secured a six-figure contract to sponsor Channel 4’s ‘You Are What You Eat’ series.
