Booker is stepping up its activity north of the border with the launch of a 30-strong range of Scottish lines to meet growing customer demand.

The Booker Scotland range, which will officially be launched in Edinburgh on 26 January, includes distinctly Scottish products such as Lorne sausage.

Although the company currently offers some Scottish products, the move follows "customer comment that our ranges weren¹t as good as they could have been," said Booker Group chief executive Charles Wilson.

Following a trial of the range last November, the company is already looking at adding an another 40 lines to complete the offer.

Although the range is currently only available in Scottish stores, "it wouldn¹t surprise me if we decide we could do a better job of it down in England as well," said Wilson.

Regional director Ken Ivatt, who will have overall responsibility for the range, will be assisted by recently appointed Scottish buyer Stephen Clinton.
