Booker’s MD for retail, Steve Fox, is joining Motor Fuel Group to take on responsibility for its retail business.
Fox will start his new role as MD of retail with the forecourt operator on 1 September and will report directly to Jeremy Clarke, MFG’s chief operating officer.
Retail, trading, operations and developments teams will report to Fox.
Colm Johnson will take over the reins at Booker, having worked at the wholesale giant for 34 years, latterly running the impulse business.
Booker CEO Charles Wilson said: “Steve Fox has done a fantastic job for Booker and the retailers we serve. We wish him and MFG the very best for the future. Colm Johnson takes over where Steve has left off. Colm has a deep understanding of our retailers and the progress we need to make to continue earning the support and partnership of our retail customers.”
Fox has 30 years’ experience in food and convenience retailing, having started his career in operations with Safeway.
He then moved to Booker, where he managed a six-fold increase in its Premier symbol group members before becoming managing director, Booker Group, retail, with responsibility for all of the group’s retail activities.
Over the past year he has been actively involved in the company’s merger with Tesco.
“This is a key appointment for us as MFG drives ahead with strengthening its retail offering, pursues an ambitious retail development programme and builds upon our market leadership position,” said Clarke.
“Steve brings a wealth of retail and wholesale experience to MFG, together with an existing understanding of our business, having worked with us since May 2016 when we rolled out the Londis and Budgens shop formats across our network.”
