Booths has completed the acquisition of its fruit and veg supplier Sharrocks.
The Northern supermarket said the acquisition – which is the first in its 166-year history – would give it greater control of its supply chain and enable it to work more closely with farmers.
By taking control of Sharrocks premises in Preston, Booths said it would benefit from additional manufacturing capacity. Booths already runs meat processing, coffee roasting and tea-blending operations from its Bluebell Way premises.
“We’re looking forward to integrating teams across our businesses and establishing closer and more direct links with our suppliers creating a more transparent supply chain,” said Booths chairman Edwin Booth. “Farmers and growers are key to Booths, and now we are one step closer to them.”
Sharrocks had worked with Booths for more than 40 years. As well as supplying the supermarket, the fruit and veg wholesaler also sold to other independent retailers.
Like Booths, Sharrocks is a long-standing family business that Booth said shared its “ethos and values”.
Sharrocks boss Graham Eastham has joined Sharrocks as a director in the Booths management team.
