Booths will open a pop-up shop in Keswick on Monday as it looks to bounce back from the floods that devastated vast swathes of the North West and Scottish Borders last week.
The pop-up, opening during the busiest trading week of the year, will offer 600 lines, from everyday essentials to Christmas favourites. It will be located in front of the Booths Keswick store, which has been closed since the floods hit two weeks ago.
Booths was forced to close three outlets in the wake of the floods. Its store in Torrisholme re-opened after a few days, while its Kirkby Lonsdale store was back trading earlier this week.
“The last couple of weeks have been a challenging time for everyone in Keswick and we have been working hard to support the local community and to keep spirits up,” said store manager Darren Jacques. “We hope our Booths pop-up will make everyone’s lives a little simpler this Christmas.”
Booths will continue to offer a free bus service from Keswick to its store in Penrith for customers wishing to do a more comprehensive shop. The company has also been working with local community food banks to ensure they have all the supplies they need, and teams have organised a company ‘let’s donate to the flood victims’ appeal.
In terms of other stores in the region affected by Storm Desmond, Sainsbury’s is reopening its Carlisle store on Tuesday. A spokeswoman said it had also started a click & collect service at the store and has been offering a broader range of food in the shop connected to the petrol filling station.
The Co-operative Group has opened a pop-up shop next to its store in Appleby, which will be closed until the new year because of flood damage.
Tesco opened a 10,000 sq ft temporary shop at its closed-down Extra store in Carlisle yesterday.
