DHL has been awarded a “major contract extension” to handle distribution for Boots until 2018.
The five-year contract will see DHL manage transport and logistics for Boots UK at its main site in Beeston, Nottinghamshire. It has been working with the retailer for 15 years.
It will handle national cross-dock, chill and transport operations as part of the contract, working with Boots’ distribution centres to deliver to 2,500 stores. At the forefront of the new contract will be a renewed focus on delivering greater efficiency through initiatives such as shared high-street deliveries and backhauling.
“We’re delighted to have secured this Landmark contract,” said DHL VP home and leisure, Jon Wood. “Under the new agreement we’re looking forward to using our expertise to create efficiencies within the supply chain.”
Boots distribution contract manager Simon Macdonald added: “DHL has adopted a collaborative and value-added approach with our business, and we are pleased to partner with them for the next stage of our operation.”
