Boots is selling lateral flow tests, following the government’s announcement that mass free testing will end from the start of April.
Tests are available to order online from Boots.com from today, at £5.99 for one or £17 for a pack of four, including delivery by Royal Mail within two days.
Boots said customers would be able to send the tests on to the UK Health Security Agency, to report a negative result if they needed to, but they could not be used to obtain a negative antigen test certificate for travel.
Cheaper tests, without the option to send the results to the UKHSA, will be sold online and in over 400 Boots stores from early March. These will cost £2.50 for one or £12 for a pack of five. If bought online, Boots.com’s standard delivery charges – £3.75 for orders under £25, rising to £4.95 for guaranteed next day – will apply.
It follows PM Boris Johnson’s announcement at Monday’s Downing Street press conference that free symptomatic and asymptomatic testing for the general public will end from 1 April.
