Scottish Courage is to end glass bottling at the Bulmers cider plant next spring with the loss of 49 jobs, as part of a streamlining of the recently-acquired business.
Bottling will be moved to other existing packaging sites within the company, and there are also plans to transfer primary distribution from the Hereford site to ACR Logistics, its national distributor. Bulmers, which makes market-leading cider Strongbow as well as Woodpecker, Scrumpy Jack and White Lightning, was acquired by ScotCo last year and has been reviewed as part of the company’s drive to reduce costs.
ScotCo has said that it will be getting rid of extra-free deals on white cider from the new year in an attempt to promote responsible drinking.
