Brakes has won a contract worth £45m over the next three years to deliver frozen food to local authorities throughout Scotland.
The win means the foodservice giant will be supplying education, social work and civic catering in 28 of Scotland's 32 local authorities. It already delivers ambient groceries to Scottish local authorities.
"With Brakes already supplying grocery and provisions, this gives us a great opportunity to work closely with local authorities to ensure we provide every customer with the correct product and service to satisfy their needs," said Paul Stewart, Brakes' business director for education and healthcare.
"This award also means a lot to Brakes' Scottish workforce, who are fully committed to meeting the challenges of servicing this major contract."
Contracts in the public sector were particularly important in the current economic climate as they represented a steadier income stream than private businesses, which had been more seriously hit by the recession, Stewart added.
The contract was awarded by Scotland Excel, the body set up to improve the standard of food provision among local authorities north of the border.
