Brakes has partnered with local authority leisure facilities provider GLL to offer its DTC service to members via its app.
Some 6,000 items from Brakes’ new ‘Food Shop’ will be made available on GLL’s ‘Better’ app.
The service covers 39 locations where Better leisure facilities are located within the vicinity of a Brakes depot, including Portbury, Bristol; Tamworth, Staffordshire; Hemsworth, Yorkshire; Aylesford, Kent; Harlow, Essex; Premier Park, North London and Reading.
The average download rate of the app per leisure centre is 1,600 people, which will equate to more than 62,000 potential customers for the wholesaler from this partnership.
“Alongside the hundreds of thousands of government food parcels that we are delivering to clinically vulnerable, shielded people across Great Britain, our home delivery and call & collect services are giving consumers access to a fantastic range of everyday staples, as well as award-winning products, and offer a stress-free alternative to visiting the supermarket or trying to arrange a home delivery from their usual provider,” said Brakes national account manager Luke Enstrom.
“We have an excellent working relationship with GLL and are delighted they have included access to our ‘Food Shop’ services as part of the app they have created to help their members during the coronavirus crisis.”
GLL Group health and fitness manager Marco Coppola said: “Since the beginning of the coronavirus crisis we have been doing what we can to support our members, by building the free content available on our Better app.
“This is a totally new venture for us, but we have an established relationship with Brakes and as a social enterprise are committed to helping local communities, however and whenever we can. We hope this easy-to-use, comprehensive online delivery service will help some of those in need, who perhaps are self-isolating, shielding or unable to get to a local supermarket easily.”
