United Co-operatives has named John Briddon as the successor to Leo Houldsworth, senior operations manager for the Yorkshire area of its food division.
Houldsworth is due to retire at the end of the year after working for the society for 20 years. He will aim to work closely with Briddon in the months leading up to his departure to ensure a smooth handover.
In his new role, Briddon will be responsible for 116 stores and eight area managers covering most of Yorkshire.
Briddon is senior operations manager for the Lancashire area. He joined the society in
1985 working in several stores in the Wigan area before taking the post of area manager for the north-west region. After that he held a number of positions, first as an area manager and then as an operational manager.
