Online supermarket British Corner Shop has teamed up with Love British Food to encourage ex-pats and travellers to celebrate British Food Fortnight in far-flung destinations.
Organisers of the annual event, which this year takes place between 19 September and 4 October, have enlisted the support of UKTI and British Embassy in a bid to garner worldwide support for the initiative which showcases British produce.
“We are encouraging people to organise British themed celebrations in British Embassies, in their places of work, in their homes and in their communities, and to share their plans and their photos via social media,” Alexia Robinson said.
“We want it [British Food Fortnight] to be celebrated on tropical beaches, on mountain-tops, in deserts and in city centres worldwide.”
Supporters will be encouraged to share their British food celebration plans on social media using the hashtag #BuyBritishFood.
British Corner Shop will sell items including jammy dodgers, cream crackers and crumpets and a chilled range sourced directly and seasonally from the West Country.
”We’re helping spread the awareness of this fantastic national event on an international scale – we want British food to be celebrated and supported worldwide,” Sophie Saint of British Corner Shop said.
“We know that some produce that can only be found in Britain is sorely missed by expats, so we erase the distance between those abroad and Britain’s fine food.”
